Measles and Dental Settings

Event Description:

This presentation will summarize what measles is, what it looks like, it's complications, and who is at risk.
The history of measles in Canada both prior to and after the COVID-19 is also described. The session will finally go over case studies, describe how to manage people exposed to and infected with measles in a dental setting with an infection prevention lens and what these learnings can mean more broadly in application to respiratory infections.
 

Speaker Bio:

Erica Susky (MSc CIC) is re-certified in Infection Control and is a teacher and thought leader in Infection Control. Her experience includes acute care, mental health, long-term care, rehab, outpatient settings and shelters/congregate settings. Erica has interests in education, research, antibiotic resistance, and clinical microbiology. Erica’s training included studying antibiotic resistance at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg where she acquired a Masters’ Degree in Medical Microbiology. She has published in international scientific journals and has presented at conferences pertaining to infection control as well as antibiotic resistance. She is currently the associate editor for the Canadian Journal of Infection Control (CJIC) and is the education lead of Infection Prevention And Control at Unity Health Toronto.
