How Orofacial Myology Benefits You
What we do: The neuromuscular re-education or re-patterning of the oral and facial muscles.
What that means: As an Orofacial Myologist we help individuals identify and re-train detrimental oral & facial habits with an easy to follow personalized program. This program creates new beneficial habits by locking in muscle memory for long-term health and well being.
How it works: As an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist (OMT) I specialize and only focus on the muscles and tissues throughout the tongue, jaw, face, head, neck, and upper throat (oropharynx). Your OMT will prescribe weekly exercises that either tone or relax these muscles and tissues aligning them to your needs. Working from your foundation up, progressively resets years of damaging habits.
Length of program: Most individuals will complete the program within a year and yet your new muscle balance could last your lifetime.
How we approach a disorder: As an OMT, we do not smooth over the symptoms, we find the base of the problem and re-start the system from there, soothing and sometimes eradicating the disorder from the foundation up.
Who we work with: We provide specialist triage (referrals) for our patients when needed. We work with Speech Language Pathologists, Sleep Clinics, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Orthodontists, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeons, Otolaryngologists (ENTs)...etc.
The Benefits: These are only a few of the many far-reaching benefits to each of these programs that are scientifically proven (depending on the disorder):
- Can help reduce snoring & apnea
- Feel better rested
- Open upper airways
- Diminish headaches
- Prevents long face syndrome
- Alleviate facial pain
- Improves posture & core muscle stability
- Tones facial muscles & tissues
- Improve focus & memory
- Lowers harmful stress hormones
- Soothes digestive discomfort
- Lowers blood pressure
- Strengthens the immune system
- Balances the body: pH, temperature, ion, glucose, neurotransmission

Best age to start: All ages. The biggest impact can be made with children since their oral-facial structure and behavior is in a more flexible stage of growth. As adults, our muscles and tissues can be toned and relaxed where needed making a large impact on how we age and the quality of life into our senior years. Making an difference in your health at any age.
